Kaan Singh

Head of Asia Cross Asset Strategy, Barclays

Kaan Singh is Head of Asia Cross Asset Strategy at Barclays, based in Hong Kong. In this role, she focuses primarily on China, India and Japan. Prior to joining Barclays in 2022, she covered Asia macro and derivatives products at Morgan Stanley and Asia macro desk research at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Kaan holds a Bachelor of Economics and Finance from the University of Hong Kong and Masters in International Finance from HEC, Paris.

Niall Ferguson

Milbank Family Senior Fellow, Hoover Institution

Niall Ferguson, MA, D.Phil., is the Milbank Family Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution, Stanford University, and a senior faculty fellow of the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at Harvard, where he served for twelve years as the Laurence A. Tisch Professor of History. He is the author of sixteen books. Niall Ferguson’s most recent book is "Doom: The Politics of Catastrophe". Ferguson was the Philippe Roman Visiting Professor at the London School of Economics in 2010-11. His many prizes and awards include the GetAbstract International Book Award (2009), the Benjamin Franklin Prize for Public Service (2010), the Hayek Prize for Lifetime Achievement (2012), the Ludwig Erhard Prize for Economic Journalism (2013), the Estoril Global Issues Distinguished Book Prize (2013), the Philip Merrill Award of the American Council of Trustees and Alumni for Outstanding Contributions to Liberal Arts Education (2016); and Columnist of the Year at the 2018 British Press Awards. He has received honorary degrees from the University of Buckingham (UK), Macquarie University (Australia), and the Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez (Chile).

Brian Deese

13th Director of the White House National Economic Council (2021-2023)

Brian Deese recently served as the Director of the United States National Economic Council in the Biden administration (2021-2023). In his role as the top economic adviser to President Biden, Deese was a principal architect of the President’s economic agenda, including the American Rescue Plan, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the CHIPs and Science Act, and the Inflation Reduction Act. Deese spearheaded the Administration’s effort to develop and integrate a modern industrial strategy into the Administration’s economic policy – with a focus on accelerating the clean energy transition, increasing energy security, bolstering the resilience of domestic supply chains, and promoting U.S. manufacturing. He coordinated the Administration’s efforts to increase competition and entrepreneurship, lower housing costs and increase housing supply, and strengthen labor protections. Prior to his appointment as Director of the National Economic Council, Deese held several senior positions in the Obama administration, including Deputy Director of the Office of Management and Budget. He was widely regarded as a key player in negotiating the Paris climate agreement and was instrumental in efforts to rescue the U.S. auto industry during the financial crisis. During the Obama‐Biden Administration, Deese also served as Acting Director of the Office of Management and Budget and Deputy Director of the National Economic Council.

Dr. Yiping Huang

Former Member, Monetary Policy Committee, People’s Bank of China

Widely acknowledged as one of the country’s foremost policy economists, Yiping serves the Chair Professor of Economics and Deputy Dean of the National School of Development (NSD) and Director of the Institute of Digital Finance (IDF), Peking University. He served as a member of the Monetary Policy Committee at the People’s Bank of China between 2015‐2018. Currently, he serves as an independent director of the Ant Group and China Life Insurance. He is also Deputy Secretary-General of the China Society of Finance and Banking, Chairman of the Special Committee on Fintech Development and Research of the National Internet Finance Association of China, Chairman of the Academic Committee of the China Finance 40 Forum, a member of the Chinese Economists 50 Forum, Editor of China Economic Journal, and an Associate Editor of Asian Economic Policy Review. Previously, he was also a policy analyst at the Research Center for Rural Development of the State Council, Senior Lecturer at the Australian National University, General Mills International Visiting Professor of Economics and Finance at the Columbia Business School, Managing Director and Chief Asia Economist for Citigroup, and Managing Director and Chief Economist for Emerging Asia here at Barclays. Yiping received his Bachelor of Agricultural Economics from Zhejiang Agricultural University, Master of Economics from Renmin University of China and PhD in Economics from Australian National University.
